Questions frequently asked by my patients

What is dental surgery?

Dental surgery is defined as operations in the teeth, jaws, or mucous membranes of the mouth. It includes the following procedures:

  • Dental implants
  • Tooth autotransplantation
  • Bone augmentation with one's own bone or foreign bone
  • Bone augmentation in the upper jaw (sinus lift)
  • Extraction of wisdom teeth
  • Root tip resection
  • Removal of small cysts around the teeth, gums or jaws (cystectomy)
  • Exposure and the bonding of brackets on teeth that have not erupted or have erupted partially
  • Reconstruction of the gums in exposed regions of the teeth (gingival recession coverage
  • Correction of the lips and the lingual frenulum (membrane under the tongue)

When does one need dental surgery?

Dental surgery should always be performed when it is a medical necessity and is meaningful.

A meaningful dental operation may consist of removing a displaced wisdom tooth or inserting a dental implant to restore the function and esthetics of the teeth.
